An IgG lab test measures the level of immunoglobulin G in the blood. Immunoglobulins are proteins that play a vital role in the body’s immune system. About 70-80% of the immunoglobulins in the blood are IgG. IgG is the only immunoglobulin that can pass through the placenta.

The IgG Serum test is performed to determine the presence of any infection in the body and the level of immunity of our body.
How will this test feel?
When the needle is inserted to draw blood, some people feel moderate pain. Others may feel only a prick or stinging sensation.
When is this test ordered?
This test is ordered when a person has symptoms of an immunoglobulin deficiency such as recurrent infections, especially of the respiratory tract (sinus, lungs) or digestive system (stomach, intestines), and/or chronic diarrhea.
The normal range of IgG in adults is 6-16 g/L.
