Overview
What is BETA HCG (Male) Test?
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone made up of alpha and beta sunbit, that is produced by the placenta and normally is measured only during pregnancy. However, both males and non-pregnant females produce low levels of hCG throughout their lives as well. In healthy adult males, the normal level of hCG is quite low. The abnormal increase in the hCG hormone indicates an underlying pathology.
Some abnormal tissues, tumors, and cancers may also produce hCG, making the hCG test useful as a tumor marker.
What does a beta HCG (male) lab test measure?
A beta HCG (male) lab test measures the amount of human chorionic gonadotropin in the blood of a male. Beta HCG is a tumor marker. Tumor markers are substances that are produced by either cancerous or non-cancerous in response to cancer.
