Urine C/S is a laboratory test required to detect bacteria and yeast in urine. These microorganisms can grow rapidly in the urinary tract and lead to an infection.

Yes, drink a lot of water to expel out the bacteria with frequent urination.
- What is contamination in sample?
If the sample shows different kinds of bacteria on culture, it is said to be contaminated. Contamination occurs when the skin of genital areas is not cleaned properly before withdrawing the sample.
- What medicine can affect my test?
Anti-biotic usage prior to testing can affect the results of the test.
- Why is UTI screening done in pregnant females?
Early diagnosis and treatment of UTI is important in pregnant females because untreated Urinary tract infection may lead to premature labor or poor labor outcomes.
- Interpretation of test results:
Positive culture: (infection present)
- More than 100000 CFU/ml
- 1,000 – 100,000 CFU/ml, if symptoms are present.
Negative culture: (infection absent)
- No growth on culture within 24 – 48 hours.
