Primary Uses

Indications

This medicine is used to treat the symptoms of depressive illness such as persistent feeling of sadness, loss of interest, and disruption in daily tasks.

Side Effects

The patients administered with this medicine may experience nausea and vomiting, somnolence, anorexia, gastrointestinal disturbances, tachycardia (high heart rate), palpitations, insomnia, hyponatremia (low sodium levels), and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (life-threatening reaction to antipsychotic medicines).

Warnings

Pregnancy

The effects of this medicine in pregnant females are undetermined; therefore, please consult your doctor before use.  

Lactation

This medication is contraindicated in lactating females.

Precautions

The patients with hepatic (liver) and renal (kidney) dysfunction, history of epilepsy (disorder characterized by seizers), bleeding disorders, heart diseases, diabetes, mania (psychiatric disorder), and risk of narrow-angle glaucoma (high pressure in the eye) should use this medicine cautiously. Please monitor the patient for attempts of suicide. Also, please withdraw the medicine gradually, when needed.

Contraindications

The patients with history of epilepsy (disorder characterized by seizures) should avoid use of this medicine.

Please do not use this medicine within two weeks of stopping monoamine oxidase inhibitors or 1 day after stopping moclobemide.
