Side effects
The adverse effects of this medication are dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia (lack of sleep), nervousness, somnolence (increased sleep), agitation, anxiety, confusion, hypertonia (increased tone), paresthesia (increased numbness), tremor, nausea, sweating, and sexual dysfunction. Anorexia, depersonalization (a state in which one's thoughts and feelings become unreal), agitation, abnormal dreams, headache, akathisia (it is a movement disorder characterized by a feeling of inner restlessness and inability to stay still), visual disturbances, tinnitus (ringing sound in the ears), tachycardia (increased heart rate), palpitations (increased throbbing of the heart), hypertension (increased blood pressure), vasodilatation (increased dilatation of blood vessels), dyspnea (shortness of breath), yawning , GI upset, rash, pruritis (intense, severe itching), urinary disorders, menstrual disorders, asthenia (weakness of the muscle), fatigue, chills, raised cholesterol, weight change. Rarely, neuroleptic malignant syndrome and GI bleeding may also be seen with the use of this drug. There are reports of hyponatremia (decreased sodium) and SIADH (a condition in which there is a retention of water in the body).

- Do not chew, crush, divide or dissolve extended release capsules in water. Swallow them whole. Capsule contents may be sprinkled onto a spoonful of applesauce and swallowed whole without chewing.
- Empty bladder(where urine is held) before taking this medication.
- Change your position slowly from sitting or lying to standing.
- On the start of therapy, the patient should be watched carefully for suicidal tendency by the caregiver or family of the patient.
