valacyclovir
This medicine is used to treat Herpes Zoster (viral infection of the nerves; also called shingles), Herpes Simplex (viral infection caused by a group of herpesviruses; may produce cold sores, genital inflammation, or eye infection) associated with infections of the skin and mucous membranes (e.g. mouth) and suppression of recurrent infections, and for treating initial and recurrent genital herpes (infection by the herpes simplex virus of the genitals).
Contradications
The patients with complicated Herpes Zoster (viral infection of the nerves; also called shingles), low immunity such as those with herpes simplex, and high risk of systemic involvement should avoid the use of this medicine.
Side effects
The patients administered with this medicine may experience headache, nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, and skin reactions.
Expert Advice
- Preferably use this medicine with meals to prevent gastrointestinal disturbances.
- Please do not double dose if you forget your prescribed dose.
- Start treatment as soon as the symptoms appear, such as chicken pox.
- Please drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
