This medication is used for treatment of eye infections such as conjunctivitis. Please note it will only work for bacterial infections, not viral or fungal infections.
sulphacetamide
This medicine is indicated in infected ocular (eye) inflammation.
Contradications
It is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to sulphonamides.
Side effects
Patients using this medication may at times experience corneal thinning, cataract, fungal infection and rise in intraocular (eye) pressure.
Expert Advice
- If the product is discolored, then don’t use the liquid.
- Hands should be washed thoroughly before use of the medicine.
- Contact lenses should be removed before use. Sterilize your contact lenses as per the manufacturer’s directions & check with your doctor before using them again.
- Medication to be instilled into eyes by first tilting your head back & look upward, then instill drops or apply a thin layer inside the lower lid. Close eye & roll your eyeballs in all directions. Do not blink & also apply gentle pressure for 1 to 2 minutes at the corner of the eye.
- Avoid touching the applicator tip with the eye or any other surface.
- If you have any other eye medication to apply, then take a 5 minutes’ break & then apply.

It is usually prescribed for 7 to 10 days. And eye drops should be used before eye ointments to allow the drops to enter the eye.
