This medicine is indicated in treatment of skin grafts on the donor site, wounds, burns, infected leg ulcers and pressure sores.

Contradications

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with porphyria (group of liver disorders), anemia (lack of healthy red blood cells), decreased blood platelets, low levels of white cells, liver problems, decreased kidney function etc.

Side effects

Pain, burning, itching and bluish discoloration of mucous membrane may occur. Rare but serious side effects include fever, chills, sore throat, unusual weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, mental mood, kidney and liver problems etc.

Make sure not to apply any shower gel, soap, shampoo, or any other irritant to the burnt area as it may worsen the wound and cause pain. Consult your healthcare provider for further guidance.

How do I speed up the wound healing?

There are several ways to speed up wound healing such as applying an antibiotic, cool compresses, honey, aloe Vera, limiting sun exposure, frequent washing with lukewarm clean water, avoiding exposure of burnt area to irritants e.g. dust, etc.

What are the side effects of silver sulfadiazine?
