Dopamine agonists are medications that work by imitating the actions of dopamine when levels are low.
lisuride
This medicine is used as a dopamine agonist in Parkinson’s disease (progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement), and post-encephalitic (inflammation of brain) Parkinson’s. It is also used as a prolactin inhibitor in primary and secondary ablactation (weaning), mastitis (breast inflammation), galactorrhea (nipple discharge irrespective of breast-feeding), post-partum galactostasis (reduction in milk production), prolactin-induced infertility and amenorrhea (lack of menstruation), and disturbances in libido (sexual desire).
Contradications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients having severe disorders of arterial circulation in the periphery and heart (coronary failure), and patients with psychosis (loss of contact with reality).
Side effects
Patients using this medicine may experience nausea, headaches, tiredness, dizziness (lightheadedness), sweating, severely decreased blood pressure, nightmares, hallucinations, and state of confusion, but mostly in Parkinsonism patients.
