This medication is used in the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses (disorders of the skin) where bacterial infection is present or suspected.

Contradications

This medication should not be used in patients with untreated bacterial, fungal or viral infections, or parasitic infestations. Use of this medication on burns, acne or rosacea (common skin disorder that causes redness due to blood vessels being visible on the skin), perioral dermatitis (inflammation of the skin around the mouth) , widespread plaque psoriasis(patches of thick, red scaly skin) among other conditions. Consult your healthcare provider for further information.  

Side effects

Cushingoid changes(changes in the body due to excess production of a hormone in the body called cortisol) ,adrenal suppression (suppression of the adrenal gland which sit on the top of the kidneys and produce hormones in the body), local skin reactions, acne , atrophy(reduction in size) , striae(stretch marks) , telangiectasia(threadlike redlines on the body due widening of tiny blood vessels) ,mild pigmentation , hypertrichosis(excessive hair growth over and above the normal for the age) , pruritus(itch) , folliculitis(common skin disorder caused by inflammation of hair follicles). Hypersensitivity (allergy) reactions.

Expert Advice

  • Wash and dry the skin before applying this medication.
  • Apply a thin film to cover affected areas and rub gently.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after applying the medication, unless hands are the area being treated.
  • If you are using other medicines or moisturizers, leave half an hour between applying each product.
  • Use airtight dressing over the affected area only if your doctor recommends it.
