Titan injection contains antibiotic ceftriaxone in it which is indicated for a vast variety of bacterial infections in children, neonates & adults. It is used in bacterial meningitis (inflammation of meninges), sepsis (life threatening condition), intra-abdominal infections, acute otitis media (inflammatory disease of middle ear), bone & joint infections, complicated UTI (urinary tract infections), skin and skin structure infections & sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, syphilis). It can also be used in infection reduction before surgery & for management of decreased number of neutrophil & fever caused due to bacterial infection.
This medication is not meant for infections caused by virus like common cold. It belongs to cephalosporin class of antibiotics which acts by weakening the outermost bacterial layer and causes breakdown of bacterial cell.
Most side effects occur for a short period & are mild. Common side effects like diarrhea (loose motion), low platelet level, increase in liver enzymes, increase or decrease no. of WBC, & skin rash can occur. If condition persist or worsen, consult doctor/pharmacist immediately.

How is ceftriaxone injection taken?
Its injection comes as powder which is mixed with liquid or as premixed product which is then IV injected over a period of 30/60 minutes.
How long will it take for ceftriaxone injection to work?
Its IV injection is slowly given & it takes about 30 minutes to complete. It should be used for prescribed period without missing the doses, as skipping dose will risk bacteria to become resistant to the medication
How long does ceftriaxone stay in our body?
Its elimination half-life in normal healthy adults is 5.8 to 8.7 hours.
Does ceftriaxone make people sleepy?
Yes, its side effects include sleepiness & unusual weakness or tiredness in people.
How does ceftriaxone act?
It works by arresting bacterial growth by attaching to one or more of penicillin binding proteins. And causes breakdown in bacterial cell wall.

Inform doctor before taking titan of your current & past medical history, especially if you’ve abnormal liver & kidney functioning, kidney problems, gastrointestinal disease, and hemolytic anemia (abnormal breakdown of RBCs). People already using other antibiotics, can have increase risk with titan use. There may be high risks of side effects of ceftriaxone in older people, so a lower dose should be given. Its dose shouldn’t be increased by more than 2 gram in case of kidney failure. It is known to cause change in blood clotting time. Its single day dose should not exceed more than 4 gm. As its overdose symptoms have been associated with diarrhea, vomiting & nausea. • In pregnancy its use is only indicated when needed. Also, caution is advised while taking in breastfeeding mothers.
