Lowplat tablet contains clopidogrel 75mg in it which is antiplatelet/anticoagulant medication. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation (clumping of platelets which forms a clot). It helps in keeping blood flow smoothly in the body. It is indicated for prevention of heart attack & strokes (when blood supply to the brain is interrupted) in cases like people suffering from heart disease (recent heart attack), peripheral vascular disease (blood circulation disease), and in recent strokes.
Lowplat is also used in combination with aspirin (NSAID; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) for treating new or worsening chest pain (new heart attack or unstable angina) and for keeping blood vessels open & preventing blood clots after procedures like cardiac stent.
At what time should you take clopidogrel?
You may take it at any time of the day but it is better to use it at the same time every day so that you don't forget the dose

You must not eat or drink grapefruit as it increases chances of bleed or bruise
For how long is clopidogrel used?
It mostly depends upon doctor's recommendation, but it is usually prescribed for a maximum of 12 months
Does clopidogrel produce any effect on blood pressure?
It doesn't produce any changes like increasing blood pressure. But if blood pressure drops it may be a sign of serious internal bleeding.
Pregnancy
Clopidogrel use in pregnant females should only be if its benefit justifies the potential risk. Only use it with a doctor's recommendation
Lactation
Inform the doctor before using it in lactating females.
Precautions
In case lowplat use leads to serious bleeding signs like blood in urine/stool, or unexplained/prolonged/excessive bleeding; immediately consult your doctor. It shouldn't be used in children below 18 years. Clopidogrel interacts with following medications may lead to more serious side effects of this medication. Drugs include diabetes medicine, proton pump inhibitors (stomach acid drugs), NSAIDs, blood thinners, SSRI & SNRI (depression treating medicines), and opioids (codeine or morphine). In people with genetic mutation on CYP2C19 liver enzymes can lead to clopidogrel not working in such patients at all. Always keep the doctor informed before going for any surgical procedure if you are using clopidogrel.
