Insulin NPH is also called human insulin because it is man-made or synthetic insulin which acts like natural insulin and help keeping the blood glucose in a normal range. Insulin NPH is long acting because of protamine added to it which makes it difficult to be absorbed and excreted from body, and so it stays effective in bloodstream for up to 24 hours to give a broader coverage for between meals and overnight insulin needs.
What is the molecular structure of Insulin NPH?
Insulin NPH (neutral protamine Hagedorn) is an amine (protein) just like natural insulin which is a large molecule made up of a long chain of proteins. By recombinant DNA technology of science, artificial insulin has been created to treat diabetes.
What form of insulin NPH is available?
Insulin NPH is an injection pen, which must be stored in a cool and dark place, consumed within 30 days and taken with doctor’s advice.
