E-clar tablet contains clarithromycin in it which is a macrolide antibiotic. Macrolide antibiotics work by inhibiting the synthesis of protein in bacteria which is responsible for bacterial infection growth. E-clar is indicated for treating wide range of bacterial infections like pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute maxillary sinusitis (inflammation and swelling of cavities around nasal passages), acute bacterial exacerbation of long-term bronchitis (worsening of symptoms of lung disease), community acquired pneumonia, & in skin infections like cellulitis, folliculitis, erysipelas etc.
Most side effects occur for a short period & are mild. Common side effects like diarrhea (loose motion), excessive sweating, headache, indigestion, insomnia (difficulty falling asleep), nausea/vomiting, rash, stomach pain can occur. If condition persist or worsen, consult doctor/pharmacist immediately.

Which one from clarithromycin & amoxicillin is effective?
As per a study, clarithromycin and amoxicillin/clavulanate (combination) is equally effective for acute maxillary sinusitis.
What possible side effects can occur with clarithromycin?
They include diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, stomach pain, heartburn, gas, change in taste, & headache.
Can clarithromycin make you sleepy?
No, it does not cause drowsiness.
Can paracetamol be used with clarithromycin?
Yes, it can be safely taken with painkillers like ibuprofen, paracetamol or co-codamol etc.

You may take it with meal or with meal. But its extended release tablets should be taken with food.
