What is this test?
Protein urine test is done on a urine sample to measure the amount of protein excreted out in urine. Higher levels of protein in urine is called proteinuria and is usually a sign of a kidney disorder.
Why is this test performed?
This test is performed:
- If a kidney disorder is suspected
- To diagnose glomerulonephritis
- If there is risk of kidney damage from uncontrolled diabetes
- If the patient has high blood pressure
- If there is family history of kidney diseases.
- Does this test shows which protein is in the sample?
No, this test only shows the level of protein in urine. To determine the type of protein your doctor might order other tests.

Store the sample at a cool temperature, in a refrigerator or a cooler.
